What is the order of belts in Shotokan Karate?
Our ranking system consists of 10 kyu (pre-black belt grades) and then proceeds to Dan level (Black Belt).
- 10th kyu (White) Beginner.
- 9th kyu ( Yellow ) Kata: Taikyoku Shodan, Nidan, Sandan.
- 8th kyu (Orange) Kata: Heian Shodan.
- 7th kyu (Blue) Kata: Heian Nidan.
- 6th kyu ( Green ) Kata: Heian Sandan.
How do you tie a GI belt?
Put the middle of your belt on your stomach and wrap it around behind you and pass each end off to the opposite hand. With both belt ends coming around from behind you, lay one end across your stomach and then the other over that. Take the length that’s in front and loop under it and around everything from below.

How long should a karate belt be?
